It's All About The Bean

Small batch roasted coffee by Master Coffee Roaster, Dominic Murgido.

Coffee availability subject to change depending on supply & demand .

For the first time in thirteen years, It’s All About the Bean must raise the price for a full pound of coffee effective January 1, 2023. Due to the rising cost of coffee production and processing my suppliers have increased the cost to me to purchase raw coffee beans from them.

The increased costs have been happening since 2019 and I have been absorbing this but a recent order I place revealed an even higher price point that will place me at a significant loss.  I thought of decreasing the amount of coffee offered to 12 oz and keeping the price the same, as it seems is the new normal on most store shelves and websites, but since the beginning of this coffee adventure of mine in 2010 I always believed that a bag of coffee should be and remain one full pound. That’s what I would want.

So, the bag will stay at one full pound and the price will now be $15.00 per pound. The snack will still accompany the coffee as always for your enjoyment with your cup of Jo. And each pound will continue to be roasted personally by me and only me to provide you with the freshest bag of coffee.

We went thirteen years without any price increase while improving our bag, our roasting process, and giving you a break on shipping.  Thank you for understanding and I hope you will still consider purchasing the freshest roasted coffee from It’s All About the Bean.

Sincerely,

Dominic Murgido -Master Coffee Roaster / Founder

How It Started

It’s All About The Bean had its origin in Bennington, VT in 2010 as the name of a small business that roasted their own coffee beans in a coffee shop. After a few years it transferred its business to an online platform for a year then relocated to Pennsylvania and is now a hobby by its founder and master coffee roaster, Dominic Murgido.

Production

All of the coffee beans are personally roasted in small batches to ensure freshness and quality. When ordering, please know that we take pride in providing you with the best coffee so be patient as you wait for the arrival of the freshest roasted coffee…ever.

Where was coffee discovered?

Coffee trees grow today as they have for centuries in the Ethiopian highlands where the legend of Kaldi, the goat herder, originated. Though we will never know with certainty, there probably is some truth to the Kaldi legend.

It is said that he discovered coffee after noticing that his goats, upon eating berries from a certain tree, became so spirited that they did not want to sleep at night.

Kaldi dutifully reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery who made a drink with the berries and discovered that it kept him alert for the long hours of evening prayer.  Soon the abbot had shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and ever so slowly knowledge of the energizing effects of the berries began to spread.  As word moved east and coffee reached the Arabian Peninsula, it began a journey which would spread its reputation across the globe.

Today coffee is grown in a multitude of countries around the world. Whether it is Asia or Africa, Central or South America, the islands of the Caribbean or Pacific, all can trace their heritage to the trees in the ancient coffee forests on the Ethiopian plateau.

Standard Single Origin Coffee

Colombian Supremo
Supremo is the highest grade of Colombian coffee beans. This is the coffee that off-the-shelf brands are trying to emulate when they offer “100% Colombian” blends, and not one of them comes close to the quality of a fresh roasted Colombian Supremo bean. These large beans create a medium bodied and sweet tasting coffee with a rich flavor and aroma.

Costa Rican/Brazilian/Colombian Decaffeinated
Depending on availability we usually carry one of these as our decaf offerings.  All are single origin coffees using the swiss water process to extract the caffeine from the bean. Brazil offers a classic profile of a bean whereas Costa Rica has a full bodied taste that rivals other countries. Colombian provides a rich flavor.

Guatemalan
From the volcanic southern regions of Guatemala. This coffee has a spicy flavor with a fair amount of acidity, and can be quite strong. This bean is a popular choice to make some of my signature blends.  It is diverse in taste and provides perfect match ups to other beans.

Brazil Santos
Brazil is the largest coffee producer in the world, and offers beans to fit just about every taste.  Brazil Santos is typified with a very mild body and low acidity. One of my favorites.

Ethiopian
Ethiopian beans feature a fragrant aroma with hints of citrus and floral undertones. The subtle fruity taste of this bean is accompanied by a moderate acidity and light body. One of my favorites.

Featured Single Origin Coffee

India Monsooned Malabar AA

Almost Gone!

“Monsooning” is a style of processing that is particular to India, specifically the Malabar Coast, including Kerala and Karnataka, and produces a cup character which is remarkable in its uniqueness from other coffees and processing. Coffee is left quite literally exposed in the monsoon weather during the rainy season, for three to four months, which tempers the coffee’s natural acidity and encourages more chocolaty, earthy, and spicy qualities often sought after in classic espresso blends.

The coffee seeds themselves are often markedly different in color from more standard washing or natural processing, taking on a yellowish rather than greenish hue.

Peru Café Femenino Fair Trade Organic

Almost Gone!

This Peru “Cafe Femenino” bean is best described by one word – balanced.  Balanced in its flavor profile featuring sweet nuttiness.  Balanced in its light acidity and medium mouthfeel.  Excellent when blended, but its unusual fullness makes it a very drinkable coffee on its own.

COMING SOON: Honduras Marcala  (Fair Trade Organic)

COMING SOON: Nicaragua Segovia (Fair Trade Organic)
